Zoom Tool (Z)

Photoshop Navigation tools

First of all we learn how to use navigation tools which are zoom tool, hand tool & rotate view tool.

Zoom tool (Z):
Magnifier icon
Zoom in tool: magnifier with + sign
Zoom out tool: magnifier with – sign

To zoom in select the zoom in tool in the option bar and click on the image area
To zoom out select the zoom out tool in the option bar and click on the image

Alt key: is a modifier key which temporarily switches zoom in tool to zoom out tool; vice versa
That is If zoom in tool is active then holding down alt key; temporarily enables zoom out tool
If zoom out tool is active then holding down alt key; temporarily enables zoom in tool

If zoom in tool is active, click and hold down the left mouse button to zoom in slowly
If zoom out tool is active, click and hold down the left mouse button to zoom out slowly

Scrubby Zoom Checkbox:
If scrubby zoom checkbox is not selected: To zoom in an area of image we can click and drag to create a rectangular selection with marching ants, once we let go the left mouse button the selected area will be zoomed in

If scrubby zoom checkbox is selected: To zoom in click and drag to the right and to zoom out click and drag to the left

Four buttons:
Actual Pixels (Ctrl + 1 / double click on zoom tool): displays image at zoom level 100%
Fit Screen (Ctrl + 0): Fits the image in work area, so that you can see complete image
Fill Screen: Zooms the image to fill complete available work area, some parts of the image might not be visible
Print Size: Displays image at its print size based on the resolution of the image
Ctrl + +: Zoom in
Ctrl + -: Zoom out

View Menu – (Zoom In, Zoom Out, Actual Pixels, Fit On Screen, Print Size)

Shift key: temporarily enables zoom all windows option
Ctrl + Space bar: If any other tool is active, holding down both Ctrl & Space bar enables temporarily zoom in tool
Ctrl + Space bar + Alt: If any other tool is active, holding down both Ctrl & Space bar & Alt enables temporarily zoom out tool
